Trick 1: Use Fill Handle to Add Serial Numbers
Example 1:
There are serial numbers in a particular column, and I want to add serial numbers in a specific column in sequence. So to add serial numbers, you can use the following steps.
1. Enter 1 in a cell and 2 in the next cell downward.
2. Select both the cells and drag down with fill handle up to the cell where you want the last serial number.
3. Once you get serial numbers up to you want, just release your mouse from the selection.
If you can’t see the drag fill icon icon while dragging from the bottom right corner of the cell then all you have to do is:
1. Go to File
2. Go to Options
3. An Excel Options Panel will open, go to Advanced
4. Tick on Enable fill handle and cell drag-and-drop
5. Click OK
Example 2:
If you are writing an Alpha-Numeric Data where the numbers are in last and want a series of numbers in a sequence down the table then you can use the following steps
1. Select the cell and drag down with fill handle up to the cell where you want the last serial number.
2. Once you get numbers in a sequence, just release your mouse from the selection.
Example 3:
If you are working in a manufacturing concern where the batch numbers are made means in the first batch 100 medicines were manufactured and in the next batch 50 medicines were manufactured.
So, if you want to do the numbering of the first 100 numbers and make a series of batch numbers from the list, you can use the following steps.
1. Select both the cells and drag down with fill handle up to the cell where you want the last number.
2. Once you get series of numbers in a sequence, just release your mouse from the selection.
Trick 2 – Bonus Trick
There are two cells wherein first cell Annual Report is written and in the next cell downward 2012-13 is written.
Now I want to join both the text without any formula to combine and make a single sentence.
So to combine both the cells you can use the following steps
1. Select both the cells
2. Go to Home Tab
3. Click on Fill dropdown and select Justify option
4. Excel will combine both the text into a single sentence
